What we do

We help where we are needed. We provide immediate humanitarian aid to people affected by war or natural disaster. As part of our development cooperation, we help people to cut loose and make a living. We focus on the development of health care and social protection as well as  rural development and environmental protection and actively work on systemic changes in Georgia.

“We Help Where Needed” – Caritas Czech Republic Tackles Georgia’s Waste Management Problem

Every year, about 900,000 tons of municipal waste is generated in Georgia, 700,000 tons of which are dumped in landfills. Currently, data on the amount and specificity of generated waste is not available in 47 out of 56 municipalities (that is to say, with the exception of relatively larger cities and towns such as Telavi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Batumi, Tbilisi, Rustavi and Borjomi).

Caritas Czech Republic has been assisting Georgian municipalities to set up and implement sustainable waste management practices. With the new partnership with Lithuanian Development Cooperation, Czech Caritas extends its support in this regard to all four municipal self-governments in Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti region.

At Caritas Czech Republic we are oftentimes responding to man-made disasters that are affecting communities in different parts of the world. Together with SlovakAid, Caritas supports winemakers, butchers and other businesses in Racha

The damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to the economy and human well-being is especially severe in the mountainous regions of Georgia, where the majority of the population is dependent on tourism and entrepreneurship is less developed. In order to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic, Caritas Czech Republic provided grant assistance to small and medium businesses (SMEs) in the region of Racha.
