Regions and people for food safety: an EU-Endorsed awareness initiative

Project aim: To increase consumer awareness and protection by improving the NFA's communication capacity and supporting consumer protection groups.

Description: In the framework of the project, the capacity of regional NGOs in food safety will be bolstered through targeted initiatives and support mechanisms. Specifically, a micro-grant competition will be launched for regional organizations, with seven receiving grants of up to CZK 500,000 each. These grants will support outreach and capacity-building projects focused on food safety and consumer rights. Recipients will conduct surveys to measure improvements in food safety awareness. Support and monitoring will be provided to microgrant recipients through mentoring, financial management guidance, and public events planning. At least one training course will be held in organizational development and recipients will be encouraged to join a collaborative platform for sustainability created by Czech Aid.

Additionally, the educational capacity and networking opportunities for local NGOs will be enhanced. This includes developing internal communication strategy and signing MoUs with partners, organizing training sessions on food safety inspection and compliance in collaboration with Czech and Georgian authorities, and providing comprehensive trainings on EU practices in food safety and consumer rights. Training on grant management and proposal writing will also be conducted to enhance the effectiveness of funded projects.

In the field of education, a food safety booklet for students in grades 7-12 will be developed. Workshops on food safety and consumer rights will be held in selected schools, conducted by trained local trainers. Mechanisms for replicating the program in other regions will be established to ensure a wider dissemination and lasting impact.
