Cancer Prevention and Care Enhancement in Georgia

Project aim: to reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly cancer, by enhancing cancer screening, treatment, public awareness, and health workforce capacity in Georgia.

  • Project Description: Early cancer detection saves lives, but many people lack awareness or access to screening. Caritas is launching a project to change that by educating the public, improving digital health systems, training medical staff, and strengthening screening centers. The project will run six awareness campaigns and develop a patient roadmap to make screening easier to navigate. Group transportation will also be arranged in 2026 to help more people reach screening centers. Digital tools will enhance the healthcare system. A cancer registry will be improved, and new e-health solutions—like an e-invitation system, online booking, and AI-based diagnostics—will make screenings more efficient. To ensure high-quality care, over 800 healthcare workers will be trained in cancer prevention, and 20 trainers will learn advanced techniques to train others. Monthly multidisciplinary meetings will improve referrals and coordination. Screening centers will be strengthened through expert-led trainings, while new equipment will support cancer diagnostics at the Zugdidi Screening Center and Iashvili Clinic. By combining awareness, technology, and skilled professionals, this initiative will make cancer screening more accessible and effective.
  • Project Results: Cancer prevention and screening will become more accessible and efficient. Six awareness campaigns will educate the public, while a patient roadmap and group transportation in 2026 will make screenings easier to access. New digital tools will modernize the healthcare system, including an AI-powered diagnostic tool, e-invitations, and an online booking system. A stronger cancer registry will improve data accuracy and coordination. Healthcare professionals will be better prepared, with 800+ trained staff and 20 expert trainers leading future education. Multidisciplinary meetings will enhance patient referrals and care. Screening centers will improve through expert-led training and patient feedback, while new medical equipment will enhance cancer diagnostics in Zugdidi and Iashvili Clinic. This initiative will make early detection easier, faster, and more effective, ultimately saving lives
