Why it is important to start vaccination from infancy

Vaccination remains one of the most effective public health tools in human history. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over the past 50 years, vaccination has saved more than 154 million lives. The absolute majority of those were children under the age of five. Without vaccination, diseases such as measles, rubella, and mumps — which are still considered among the most serious and life-threatening infections — would claim millions of lives each year.

Thousands displaced in southern Syria – Security and Humanitarian Situation Remains Critical

Caritas Czech Republic has been operating in the Turkish-Syrian border region since 2013. In February 2023, a powerful earthquake struck Syria and Turkey. In cooperation with our local partners, we provided on-site assistance – ranging from essential material aid to hygiene kits and warm clothing. In December 2024, the government of Bashar al-Assad came to an end, leaving the country in a state of fragility. Caritas continues to closely monitor the humanitarian situation across Syria, including in areas where we are not currently operating directly. One such region is the southern province of Al-Suwayda, where both the security and humanitarian conditions have deteriorated significantly in recent weeks.

Since October 2023, the Gaza Strip has been facing a profound humanitarian crisis. The civilian population is repeatedly displaced and faces a severe shortage of essential resources, including drinking water, food, medicine, and electricity. The area is entirely cut off from the outside world, with no safe refuge and no means of escape. In this environment, Caritas Czech Republic is working to assist. With its team on the ground in Gaza, the organisation delivers basic healthcare, psychosocial support, and humanitarian aid.

Gaza: Starvation or Gunfire - This is Not a Humanitarian Response

Caritas Czech Republic joined a call of more than 200 NGOs for immediate action to end the deadly Israeli distribution scheme (including the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) in Gaza, revert to the existing UN-led coordination mechanisms, and lift the Israeli government’s blockade on aid and commercial supplies. The 400 aid distribution points operating during the temporary ceasefire across Gaza have now been replaced by just four military-controlled distribution sites, forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarized zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties while trying to access food and are denied other life-saving supplies.
