Hand over thermal-screening equipment to local public health authorities in Zugdidi Municipality

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, H.E. Petr Mikyska together with Mr. Jan Cernik, Head of Development Cooperation of the Czech Embassy and Mr. Jan Blinka, the Head of Mission of Caritas Czech Republic in Georgia, visited Zugdidi Municipality with the purpose to hand over thermal-screening equipment to local public health authorities. The equipment will be used to identify persons with COVID-19 symptoms who will be then referred to relevant medical facilities for a check-up.

The equipment consists of non-contact thermometers and protective cloths (face masks, gloves, medical coats, etc). The activity was funded by the Czech Development Agency in the frame of the project of establishment of the Zugdidi Screening Center. Except for the equipment, Caritas Czech Republic also delivered COVID-19 related information material in order to make the intervention more effective and increase the awareness of the population in the region about the importance of preventive measures.

Furthermore, the staff of Zugdidi Screening Center which was established under the project of Caritas Czech Republic with the financial support of the Czech Development Agency will be engaged in the thermal screening process led by the local Public Health Center in the selected areas of the municipality. During the following month, the population of Zugdidi in selected risk areas will be screened for temperature and provided more information about COVID-19 preventive measures.

The thermal screening campaign is a joint action of the Zugdidi Public Health Center, CCRG, and ZSC. The parties recognize the importance of prevention of infectious disease for the health benefit of the population of Georgia, share responsibility in fighting against it and declare readiness to take join action against the spreading of COVID-19.

The action is a part of CCRG´s measures in support of local government to fight against the corona virus spread in the region. Under its project, CCRG has been also conducting other activities related to COVID-19 response. These measures cover the provision of information material for dissemination in the population of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti region, delivery of online training for rural primary healthcare doctors on the management of COVID-19 at primary healthcare level on request of the Ministry of Health. Overall, around 170 rural doctors in the region have been trained on how to provide distant medical consultations to the local rural population while staying safe, etc.
