Ensuring continuity of maternal and child health services during the COVID pandemic

Full name of project: Ensuring continuity of maternal and child health services during the COVID pandemic

  • Project duration: October 2020-June 2021
  • Project Partner: Emergency Situation Coordination and Urgent Assistance Center

  • Description: The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Primary Health Care (PHC) sector is multi-dimensional.  Reduction in utilization and maintaining essential healthcare services at the PHC level, especially in rural areas –all have been the consequences of the pandemic. As part of the new partnership that aims to address the current needs, UNICEF Georgia and Caritas Czech Republic initiated distance trainings for family doctors with the ultimate goal to support mothers and young children. The initiative is believed to maintain lifesaving services for mothers and babies born during the pandemic and threatened by strained health systems and disruptions in services. As a result of the planned activities, the capacity of all rural doctors in delivery of post-natal and well-baby services will be strengthened.
