Caritas Czech Republic continues to support veterinary services in Georgia

Caritas Czech Republic continues to support veterinary services in Georgia. For this purpose, last week, we handed over to the National Food Agency a high-power generator and thermal bags. The generator will be installed in the central office of the National Food Agency in Tbilisi. It will ensure the storage of vaccines and other perishable substances during a power outage, while the thermal bags will be used by the agency's veterinary brigades, which are involved in vaccination and other veterinary services.

With the financial support of the Czech Development Agency, Caritas Czech Republic donated a high-powered generator and thermal bags to the National Food Agency. This donation is part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the parties on December 19, 2023, to promote improved veterinary services in highland municipalities.

The mentioned generator will be installed in the central office of the National Food Agency in Tbilisi and will ensure the storage of vaccines and other perishable substances in the event of a power outage. As for thermal bags, more than 40 veterinary brigades of the agency working in Dusheti, Khulo, and Akhmeta municipalities, which are involved in vaccination and other veterinary services, will be able to use them.

As part of the project "Cattle Farming in Georgia: Towards Increased Productivity, competitiveness, and Sustainability" supported by the Czech Development Agency, Caritas Czech Republic is working to increase market access for local farmers by improving business development, sanitary and biosecurity standards, and linkages with clients and finance. Project experts work with artificial insemination specialists, veterinarians, and farmers to increase their skills in artificial insemination, proper animal care, sustainable pasture management, feed production, and good cattle feeding practices.

Within the framework of the project, we trained farmers, veterinarians, and artificial insemination specialists, as well as organized demonstration plots to introduce the practice of rotational grazing. In addition, grants were disseminated to purchase equipment necessary for beef cattle breeding.

Khulo and Aragvi Local Development Groups (LAGs) and Tusheti Landscape Protection Administration (TPLA) are involved in the project. Also, the project actively cooperates with state bodies. In addition, the project cooperates with CzechTrade in organizing the Czech companies' missions and for the beneficiaries' membership in the Association of Farmers of Georgia.

As a result of the project, the number of farmers who follow sustainable and more productive animal husbandry practices will increase. The selected farmers will have better access to the market, and their income will increase accordingly. In addition, Georgian farmers will be able to learn about Czech agricultural practices through B2B meetings.

This material was produced in the framework of the Caritas Czech Republic's project, which is carried out in cooperation with the Czech Development Agency. The initiative is a part of the Czech Republic's large-scale Official Development Assistance towards Georgia.
